This nearly continuously blooming fourth
generation hulthemia has the best
color contrast so far
between blotch and petal color. Foliage is free of
powdery mildew and plant habit is more bushy instead of a rangey wild growth,
which is more
typical of the earlier hulthemia roses.
Also, there are fewer thorns than usual for hulthemias and the peduncles are
smooth.
The seed parent was {[('Orangeade' X 'Abraham Darby') X 'Midnight Blue'] X
('Geisha' X 'Baby Love')} and was crossed with one of two
possible pollen parents. The tags for this cross had been eaten by snails,
so all that remained to mark the hips were tagless strings!
The pollen parent was either G34 or I89-2 (see below).
G34 = {'Halo Today' X ['Geisha' X ('Tobo' X 'Singin' in the Rain')]}X
'Tiggle'
I89-2 = [('Orangeade' X 'Abraham Darby') X
'Midnight Blue'] X 'Persian Sunset'
