Examples of different kinds of rose foliage

It is important to remember when breeding roses, that there is more to roses than just the blooms.
The foliage is just as important (as are a variety of other characteristics - branching, plant habit, fragrance,
disease resistance).  Foliage in my opinion, is most attractive when it is glossy and colorful.  It may have
dark rich tones or lighter lime green tones:

Watch also, for foliage that is different.  The seedling below had variegated foliage.  The lighter parts tended
to burn in the sun, so the seedling was ultimately discarded.

The foliage on the seedling below is highly textured.  Because it is also very clean against powdery mildew, it was kept for further breeding.
